The Southern African Golf Institute is situated at River Club in Observatory, Cape Town.  Our coaches are PGA qualified and personally trained by our Golf Director, internationally renowned coach Grant Hepburn (www.granthepburn.com).  Grant has trained coaches around the world and is vastly experienced at passing on his knowledge in a way that allows coaches to have a thorough understanding of how to help golfers improve quickly and effectively.

Our coaching philosophy centres around finding individual solutions to each golfer’s faults.  Our coaches understand “cause and effect” of poor technique and are able to provide simple advice that produces the best results.  We utilize cameras and computer equipment as well as some unique teaching aids to make the process of learning more visual and a lot easier.

Our facility at River Club is superbly suited to improving your golf game.  We have extensive under cover hitting areas providing shelter from rain and wind.  The facility boasts ample grass hitting bays as well as short game areas where it is possible to practice putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play.  We are also able to offer a 9 hole mashie golf course on site which is ideal for practicing everything from mid iron play to shot making skills and improving your scoring ability.  We have conference facilities and a restaurant on site providing refreshments and tasty meals.

At the Southern African Golf Institute we are dedicated to your golfing needs.  As such we provide private tuition as well as a host of other options from group coaching to full time coaching.  We also offer the opportunity to make golf your career through our PGA Diploma package and other options providing education alongside world class golf coaching.

Corporate Events:

Our staff has coached at high profile events all over the world.  Some of these events include high profile annual outings such as the Dunhill Links European Tour Event in Scotland, The Dimension Data Sunshine Tour event in South Africa and Michael Jordan’s Celebrity Challenge event in the Bahamas as well as the Laureus World Sports Awards.

We also have year of experience in setting up and managing events. Ian Berga – Head Professional

Ian has been playing golf since the age of 9 and is now a vastly experienced teacher. He qualified as an “A” class PGA professional in 1993 and has worked at top golf courses such as Royal Cape and as Head Professional at Fancourt.

Since 1998 Ian has focused his energy on coaching in Cape Town and has built up a large and loyal client base. He has had the opportunity to work with world class coaches and has built a thorough knowledge and understanding of golf technique. Ian is passionate about coaching and his relaxed and uncomplicated style has helped his clients to achieve fantastic results. Ian is adept at coaching everyone from children to beginners to top professionals.

Lisa Mackenzie – General Manager & Golf Coaching Specialist

Lisa was born in Zimbabwe and later moved to Durban.   She qualified as a Teacher in 1992 and completed her Degree in Adult Education in 1997.  In 2002 she qualified as a Teaching Pro with the WPGA & WGTF.   Lisa Joined Champagne Golf in 2005 and started up the Western Cape Division based at The River Club where she had the opportunity to work with world class international golf coaches like Robert Baker and Grant Hepburn.

Her extensive experience in the golfing industry has included:

• Consultant Professional to the Western Province Golf Foundation Junior Program.
• Assistant Tournament Director for the 2004/5 Nedbank Women’s Golf Tour.
• Player and Development Manager, Events Planner and client liaison officer for the Women’s World Cup of Golf.

She has attended international events to gain knowledge of tournament set-up and roll-out, including providing coaching and spending time with some of the top professionals at each event. Some of which are: the Solheim Cup, the Dubai Masters 2006 & 2008, the Dubai Classic.  She has also participated in the SA Open 2007 which forms part of the SA Ladies Tour.

Lisa balances coaching with running the various aspects of the Cape Town Academy.  She passionately ensures a high level of coaching and service to all clients.  As a result Lisa is a sought after coach and a very efficient manager and event organizer.

André Rossouw – Golf Coaching Specialist

André was born in Worcester and moved to Cape Town at the age of 7. He is a natural sportsman and became a good golfer in a short time despite only taking up the game in his late teens.

André received a diploma in Club Management and Golf Directorship from Damelin in 2007 but his real passion is coaching and he is now enrolled with the PGA.  For the last 3 years Andre has focused on teaching and helping golfers of all levels to understand their swings and improve their golf game.  He has an excellent eye for identifying problem areas and is able to communicate the solutions in a patient and clear manner.  His results are excellent and he has quickly built a following of golfers that swear by his expertise.

Ryan Randall – Golf Coaching Specialist

Ryan grew up playing golf in Cape Town but has always been fascinated with the coaching side of golf and he exudes a real passion for this.  He has a massive following from juniors due to his ability to connect with youngsters and he displays incredible patience with them.  But he is equally adept at coaching advanced players and he enjoys success with golfers of a provincial level as well as young professionals.

Ryan is enrolled with the PGA and his constant enthusiasm and pleasant manner make him a highly successful coach.  He has an unquenched desire to ensure that his students improve and he achieves this through his knowledge and ability to make learning golf a fun and enjoyable experience.
