9-Hole Course
‘Mashie’ is the archaic name for an iron with a loft of about 33-degrees. That loft angle used to be called the 5-iron and so “mashie” became synonymous with 5-iron. However, the mashie had characteristics closer to a modern 6- or 7-iron. This is the typical club of choice on a short course, and hence, the term ‘mashie course’ was born.
However, the River Club’s course is more suited to a 9-iron and pitching wedge.
The River Club Mashie course is a challenging 9-hole, par 27. It costs R50 to play and is a great way to get some short game practice.
Golf course hours:
Mon: 11am – 8pm (summer), 7pm (winter)
Tue – Sat: 8am – 8pm (summer), 7pm (winter)
Sun: 8am – 7pm (summer), 6pm (winter)
