WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM WATCHING THE PRO’S PLAY…

The standard of professional golf is just getting better and better. What we can learn from the majority of good touring professionals is that they all have a swing coach and are constantly trying to improve their consistency. Most touring professionals have mental coaches to improve their games. Most importantly, their clubs are fitted for them and they have the best possible equipment to help them with their games.

Remember the River Club Golf Shop can source you any kind of Golf Clubs at better prices …..

AIM & ALIGNMET

Tuesday, 27th July 2010

The club always aims to the target which is the right line and your body (feet, knees, hips and shoulders) line up parallel of that.  Picture a railway line your club is on the right track and your body on the left.

Frequently you may be wondering why your ball may be going left or right of the target and the first thing players do is change this basic fundamental, which is the wrong approach.  In doing this you are only making things worse.  A player whose ball is going right will often adjust their Alignment or body line to an open position or left of the target (Dsc 0087).  In doing this the ball will only go more right.  Subsequently a player who is in a closed position where their alignment or body line is to closed or pointing to the right (DSC 0084) will be affected by a shot going left as the shot is pulled around the body.  This leads to a lot of frustration and lost shots.

So to make things easy on yourself always ensure when you address your ball you “Get Square”.

Putting – Cape Town Golf Academy – 021 3000140

TAKE THE CORRECT PATH TO ACCURACY

In the correct address position your feet, hips and shoulders are parallel to the target line. Ensuring your eyes are over the ball encourages your neckline to be parallel to the ground, which enables your shoulders to move in a natural arc.

To start the backswing the right shoulder moves both backwards and upwards, the arms and club swing backwards on a slightly “inside” path, which is a natural response to the arc of the shoulders. Remember, the length of the stroke ( backswing and follow through) will determine the distance of the putt.

putting pic 1putting pic 2putting pic 3

The putter swings back into the impact position. Note how the arrows on the hoop indicate the turning of the shoulders and swinging of the arms in unison. The putter is returned to a square position at impact, which leads to an accurate putt.

The left shoulder must continue to move upwards and backwards, allowing the right shoulder to swing under the chin and down the target line. The arms move in conjunction with the shoulders swinging the putter on the correct path. The use of the arms and shoulders like this minimizes wrist action and therefore allows the more reliable larger muscles to guide the putter.

putting pic 4putting pic 5

In the completion of the follow through, the putter head has moved on an inside path relative to the target line. Remember, the length of the follow through is determined by the length of the backswing, they are equal in length. The total swing distance will determine the length of the putt.

CAPE TOWN GOLF ACADEMY – Logicalgolf

CAPE TOWN GOLF ACADEMY
Tip provided by: Lisa Mackenzie

The following came from a question often asked and which is a huge misconception in the swing.

Question: Are Golfers Supposed To Keep Their Head STILL?

Many golfers believe that by keeping your head still you will almost 100% be able to hit or rather strike the ball. This in essence is true as by keeping your head still, it limits the range of body movement, which will allow a player to at least connect with the golf ball. However this will not help with a player who is looking for more consistency and distance.  Which is what most players are looking for.

Keeping the head still limits a players shoulder turn, hip rotation and weight transfer. These are all essential components of the golf swing that assist in generating distance. Many of the golf professionals of today playing on tour understand that by controlling a little lateral movement during the backswing will allow a full “twisting” of the body and a full transfer of weight during the follow – through.

A good drill to test if you are doing the correct actions is to try and throw a tennis ball as far as you can: firstly keeping the head still , Secondly with a little lateral movement. (SEE WHICH BALL GOES FURTHER)!!!!
